MR CHRISTOPHER GORMAN
BSc MBChB(Hons) FRCOphth *
Consultant Opthalmic Surgeon
I was appointed Consultant Ophthalmic, Vitreoretinal Surgeon in University Hospital Wales, Cardiff in 2000. I qualified from Leeds Medical School with Honours in 1998.

Why choose Mr Gorman?
I am a highly experienced cataract surgeon, managing straightforward cases, complex cataracts and refractive cases. I also regularly manage cataract patients that whether for medical reasons or ophthalmic complexity need extra support beyond a standard hospital volume cataract care pathway.

My subsequent specialist ophthalmic training and Vitreoretinal Fellowship was undertaken in Nottingham.
As an additional part of this training I also worked in South Africa which further broadened the depth and breadth of my skills in different ophthalmic environments.
As part of my Vitreoretinal specialism, I am regularly referred patients from Consultant surgeons in other south Wales ophthalmic units when the surgeon has run into surgical complications whilst performing cataract surgery and need my specialist vitreoretinal skills to stabilise and rehabilitate the eyes.
My clinical interest is the specialist surgical management of vitreoretinal conditions including: retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, complex diabetic eye disease requiring surgery, intraocular foreign bodies, subluxated lens, ocular trauma, retinal haemorrhage, vitreous haemorrhage, posterior vitreous detachment. I also perform specialist retinal laser procedures for retinal tears or complex diabetic eye disease.
At Spire Cardiff Hospital I provide a general ophthalmic service for many common eye conditions. I perform cataract surgery and treatment for Posterior Capsular Opacification (YAG Laser).
For further details of the services I provide, please contact my Secretary, Alison.
